Dicksboro manager Dan O’Neill has hailed his side’s work rate after a hard-fought senior camogie final victory over Piltown.

The city side took the spoils on a 1-12 to 0-10 scoreline to record their fifth-ever top-grade championship title and retain their crown in the process.

“I suppose it's relief more than anything. We didn't make a big thing about not being able to win back-to-back up to now. We mentioned it at the start of the year, but it wasn't really a thing. It's only when you win now that you realise it's a great achievement in a county like Kilkenny, where camogie is so strong,” O’Neill told Kilkenny People Sport.

“It wasn't a classic, but we don't mind that. It was all about hard work really. The backs were outstanding, but I think the work rate of the forwards was what won the match. They just refused to let Piltown get easy clearances and set up attacks.

“In fairness to Piltown, the goal just before half-time probably isn't a true reflection of how that first half went. We definitely rode our luck. Piltown could easily have had a couple of goals, and to go in five points up at half-time was a great lift to us because it could very easily have been the other way around. That was a massive boost just on the stroke of half-time,” the Dicksboro boss said.

“We'll enjoy the next few days, we'll regroup, and we'll have a crack at the Leinster Championship.”
