Kilkenny and Waterford gardaí join forces for major operation

Were you stopped at a garda checkpoint on Wednesday in County Kilkenny?
The Roads Policing Unit of Kilkenny and Waterford gardaí were out in force on Wednesday as Operation INTRO took place.
The operation aims to have seasoned Roads Policing members bring along new gardaí on the enforcement of all traffic legislation, especially intoxicated driving.
In Kilkenny, 170 breath tests and 40 drug tests were carried out with one arrest DUI, one arrest for a disqualified driver and three vehicles were seized.
At the same time, a number of fines were issued for offences including registration plates, tyres, no NCT, no tax, and other violations.
“Members were told that if they carried out this checkpoint in 25 degree heat, they'd be going to Tramore in the afternoon,” the Kilkenny An Garda Síochana Facebook page posted humerously.
“A palpable excitement naturally arose as swimming trunks and towels were lined up. Unfortunately for our eager beachgoers though, checkpoints in Tramore were the order of the afternoon! No 99s, drug wipes and breath tests replaced holding your breath underwater.
“Regardless, there were several detections down South with a Drug and a Drink Driver, vehicles seized and other offences.
“Now for the beach,” the post concluded.
