The Physical Activity Leaders course took place in Kilkenny over a six week period

Physical Activity Leaders (PALs), an initiative of Age & Opportunity that empowers older adults to become leaders of physical activity within their own communities, recently took place in Kilkenny.

Participants were trained to lead fun, safe and inclusive activities in their local groups, helping to improve health, wellbeing and social connection and support active ageing.

Over the past six weeks, a fantastic group of older adults from local community groups in Kilkenny came together to develop the skills and confidence to become PALs.

Throughout the programme, participants learned a variety of enjoyable and practical activities, including strength and balance exercises, fun games, and group-based physical activities that they can now bring back to their own groups.

Donna O’Donoghue from SOS Kilkenny provided invaluable support in helping to deliver the workshops locally and O’Loughlin Gaels GAA Club generously facilitated the programmes in their excellent facilities.

Congratulations to all the newly qualified PALs on completing the training. Age & Opportunity wish them every success as they return to their local groups to lead activities, inspire others and continue promoting active, healthy ageing across the Kilkenny community.

If you are part of an older adults’ group and would like to learn more about the PALs Initiative or are interested in taking part in future training, please contact Máire Murphy, PALs Coordinator at Age & Opportunity, by email at [email protected].
