Cllr Ger Frisby says poor signal timing near Abbey Community College is causing peak-time gridlock

Traffic light sequencing on Abbey Road in Ferrybank is causing significant disruption, particularly during school drop-off and collection times, a local councillor has claimed.

Speaking at this month's meeting of the Piltown Municipal District, Cllr Ger Frisby said the new layout and lights near Abbey Community College were “still causing a big problem”.

“The sequencing there is all wrong,” he said. “It’s completely creating a bottleneck. We need to get the sequencing right, particularly at busy times.”

He stressed that the issue is generating “huge frustration” for parents and asked if it could be raised with the North Quays Project Team.

Acting Director of Services at Kilkenny County Council, Ian Gardner, acknowledged the feedback and agreed to pass it on.

He noted that there are “still a lot of traffic management works in place” but said the junction will have adaptive lights installed in the future.
