Kilkenny gardaí warn over dangerous text scams targeting mothers

Gardaí in Kilkenny are urging people to be vigilant over a number of text message scams currently operating.

One involves a fake 'lost phone' message targeting mothers, with the message of 'hi mum, I have lost my phone', inviting the phone user to add a number and respond. It is a scam text.

One other online fraud reported in recent days involved the injured party receiving a text message from their 'bank' with a link. Once following the link, they received a phone call from the 'bank'. Instructions were followed resulting in money removed from the victim's account.

"Always remember, no bank will ask you for your bank details over the phone. Do not hit the links in these messages."
