The future of Kilkenny athletics looks bright as a team of young Harriers showed at the National Children’s Games (All Ireland Pairs) and National Relays.

Kilkenny City Harriers pair Cian McIntyre competed in the under-nine long jump and made their first foray into the All-Ireland championships a winning one as they took gold. They also competed in the 60m sprint pairs and acquitted themselves well, Cian running 10.1seconds and Jonah running 10.4 seconds.

Daniel Quinn and Cillian Maher represented KCH in the under-11 600m pairs with Cillian placing 15th in his heat, while Daniel placed fourth in his heat and ninth individual overall, running a super personal best time of 1.51.93.

Also competing for KCH were Charlie Norris and Daniel Quinn in the under-11 turbo javelin, as well as Harry Healy and Conor Kelly in the under-10 long jump.

The under 9 Kilkenny City Harriers relay team of Henry Trayer, Jonah Cleere, Dara Walsh and Cian McIntyre came third in heat two, which was good enough to win the bronze medal with a big personal best time of 1.06.09. All the podium placings came from a very quick heat two.
