The news broke on Monday evening

People from across Kilkenny and beyond have paid tribute to local man Michael Madden who has passed away after a short illness.

Mr Madden was a keen admirer of 'supercars' and 'Canonball Ireland' member Alan Bannon, an organisation which hosts an annual gathering of supercar enthusiasts in Kilkenny and across the country paid tribute to the local man via social media on Monday evening.

"It is with deep sadness that I share the passing of a beloved Cannonballer, Michael Madden from Kilkenny, after a short illness," the post read.

"Michael and his wife Suzanne were regular participants in many Cannonballs over the years. His love for cars was unmatched, and he was best known for his beautiful Lamborghini Diablo.

"We are organizing a guard of honour with Cannonball cars for Michael’s funeral, as this would have meant a great deal to him. If you have a car available on Wednesday morning and would like to take part, please contact me directly for details about the procession to the graveyard," the post continued.

Many friends and fellow car enthusiasts paid tribute to the Kilkenny man following the sad news.

"Shocked to read. Many the chat we had when we met in Dublin while buying cars. Condolences to all his family," one person commented, while another added, "This is heartbreaking, Michael was a very special friend and one smashing guy, bless you Michael."
