A past pupils' group for Good Counsel College have also expressed their sadness upon hearing about Benny's passing.

"Saddened to hear of the sudden death in Canada of past pupil Brendan Meaney," a post from the group stated.

"Brendan was never without a smile on his face. He was a great character who is fondly remembered here in GCC. He also lined out with our Aussie Rules team in 2010 when we took on a visiting Australian school. Ar dheis Dé raibh a anam."
