Student Accomodation Leaving Over 100 Students Homeless
Dear Sir/Madam,
I am writing to you as a student (and one who has lived in Kilkenny) living in a student accommodation that is leaving myself and over 100 other students homeless by the 6th of June.
We received an email today (16/05/22) outlining that the accommodation (Hubble Living Dublin, Mayor Street, IFSC, Dublin 1) will not be conducting summer extensions for June, July, and August. This is despite the fact they have advertised such extensions since April and have interacted positively with our responses.
The reason given for this new policy is that the accommodation will be used to house Ukranian refugees over the summer period. A great policy, but they are kicking us out so that the refugees have a place to stay. I will emphasize that we were not informed that this was a possibility at any point.
Many of the students who will be homeless are international students who are stuck here, working students, and students halfway through their Masters/PhDs. Two weeks notice to find a new place is absurd!
I can share screenshots if you needed but this should not be pushed to the side and our story needs to be told!
Please don't hesitate to get in contact!
Kind regards,
Illan
