Tree to be replanted on spot where seven bishops were said to have been executed in Kilkenny
The first event of Féile Lachtain 2023 will be held on Saturday at Ballylarkin Church when the "Bishops' Tree" will be replanted.
Local tradition states that seven bishops were hanged at this spot during the Cromwelliam invasion. Ossory historian Canon Carrigan suggests the event occurred during the Viking era.
The tree fell during the 1950s and local resident Mick Burke remembers that even though firewood was scarce in the area at the time, not a twig or a branch was taken from the tree, which eventually rotted away.
All are welcome to attend at Ballylarkin Church on Saturday at 5pm for this special event.
