Warning over new scam proliferating itself on online marketplace groups in Kilkenny

If you're an active user of local marketplace groups on social media websites, you are now being asked to be aware of a common scam doing the rounds.
It usually involves a scammer (typically using a fake or hijacked account) posting an array of househould items for sale, under the pretence that they are selling because they are either downsizing or moving out.
The items that are posted are usually in a really good condition, and often offered at a low price, often with comments disabled so that users are forced to private message the seller if interested.
The catch is that the scammers tend to ask for money upfront to reserve or hold the items, usually through exchange platforms such as Revolut.
The best advice is to be very wary if somebody is asking for money upfront and to try to fully confirm the seller's identity before making any financial transactions.
If it seems too good to be true, it probably is.
