A separate status yellow wind warning, which has been issued for Waterford, Cork, Tipperary, Limerick, Clare, Kerry, Carlow, Dublin, Kilkenny, Wexford, Wicklow, Galway, Mayo and Sligo, comes into effect an hour later, at 6am on Sunday, and remains valid until 6pm.

In its latest update, Met Éireann says "heavy downpours of rain may lead to spot flooding" in counties which are impacted by the rain warnings while the wind warnings pose a risk of further damage being caused to already weakened structures and trees.

Travelling conditions are also likely to be dangerous at times.
