Call for action on ‘menace’ of young people riding ‘dangerous’ e-scooters in Waterford

The matter was discussed at a recent meeting of the Waterford Local Community Safety Partnership in City Hall
A call for action has been made over the “menace” of young people riding “dangerous” e-scooters in Waterford.
Sean Aylward, Chairperson of the Waterford Local Community Safety Partnership, made the comments at a recent public meeting in City Hall.
In response to a question on “gangs of teenagers” engaging in anti-social behaviour in the city, he highlighted the importance of providing alternative pathways for young people.
Mr Aylward made particular reference to the use of e-scooters by these teens, describing the behaviour as a “menace”.
He outlined the importance of making young people aware of the law and regulations surrounding the use of the scooters.
He also emphasised the necessity to promote the safe use of what he described as the “dangerous vehicles”.
As well as that, Mr Aylward criticised the “dangerous use of sulkies” by teenagers and said it was particularly important to reach out to young Travellers over the issue.
He concluded by saying that both of these issues can be addressed and managed if local authorities “reach out the hand”.
