Call for more frequent trains to Dublin at new train station in Waterford city

A local councillor has called for more frequent trains to Dublin once the new train station opens in Waterford city.
Independent councillor Donal Barry spoke on the subject at the June plenary meeting of Waterford City and County Council.
Cllr Barry said: “I think one of the most important parts of this whole railway station project is the frequency of trains from Waterford to Dublin and indeed to other locations.
“I think there has to be serious talks with CIE with regard to increasing the number of trains, the frequencies and putting the track structure in place for faster trains to Dublin.
“It was a very disappointing survey last month that only one per cent of people were arriving in Waterford by train.”
He received no response to his comments from the executive, as Senior Engineer Séan Dobbs ran out of time to answer councillors’ questions.
The elected members were told that they would be reverted back to privately in due course.
