A camper had to be rescued from the Comeragh Mountains in County Waterford earlier this week after their tent blew away during the night.

The camper called An Garda Síochána after their tent blew away in worsening weather conditions at approximately 2:30am on Monday, June 1.

The gardaí subsequently notified the South Eastern Mountain Rescue Association (SEMRA), who attended the scene.

The camper navigated down to the Boola’s Loop where they were met by SEMRA volunteers, who escorted them out to the team vehicles where they were assessed and given some food.

Gardaí subsequently transported the camper to a Garda station for the night to dry off, recharge their phone and arrange transport back home on the bus.

In a statement following the call-out, a SEMRA spokesperson said: “Even though temperatures were warmer this last week, once you are wet and without shelter, hypothermia is a real risk.

“It was a pretty miserable night on the hill so they did the right thing to call for help.

“Sometimes, no matter how well prepared you are, things just go wrong and that’s why we are here.”
