A decision by Waterford City and County Council is expected in the coming days

A decision is imminent on plans for an apartment complex in a busy suburb of Waterford city.

Spotterlane Ltd has plans to construct two four-storey apartment blocks at an address of Ballinakill Shopping Centre, Dunmore Road.

The development would be located behind the existing shopping centre, adjacent to Mowlam Nursing Home.

It would consist of a total of 80 apartments, including 28 two-bedroom apartments, 46 one-bedroom apartments and six studio apartments.

The original applicant, Tony Robinson, was granted permission to construct 60 apartments at the location in January 2022.

The decision was subsequently appealed to what was then An Bord Pleanlála, but the board ruled in favour of the development proceeding in June of that year.

However, a new application was submitted last year which contained plans for an additional 20 apartments at the location.

A number of residents of the nearby Ballinakill Downs estate have filed submissions in opposition to the development proceeding.

A decision by Waterford City and County Council is expected by July 7.

If the council decides to grant permission, the decision may be appealed to An Coimisiún Pleanála again.
