A local councillor has said he is “absolutely disgusted” after human faeces were “deliberately deposited” in a playground in County Waterford.

Independent councillor Declan Clune detailed the incident in a post on social media this afternoon.

In a post on Facebook, Cllr Clune wrote: “I am absolutely disgusted to learn that human faeces were deliberately deposited on the children's slide in Portlaw Park Playground.

“Sadly, one child came into contact with it before it was discovered and cleaned.

“This is a public amenity enjoyed by many local families, and this kind of mindless, disgusting behaviour has no place in our community and will not be tolerated.”

He paid tribute to the two women who cleaned the facility so it could be used again.

“A huge thank you to the two local ladies who stepped in to clean, bleach and disinfect the slide, ensuring it was safe for children to use again.

“Your community spirit is greatly appreciated.”

Cllr Clune went on to say that the incident has been reported to An Garda Síochána.

“The Gardaí have been notified. I would ask residents along Connolly Road and nearby to please check any CCTV or doorbell camera footage that may have captured activity around the playground.

“If you have any information that could help identify the person responsible, please contact me privately or An Garda Síochána.”
