Fine Gael councillor Seanie Power elected Cathaoirleach of Comeragh District

Cllr Power was elected to the position at the AGM of the district in Dungarvan
Fine Gael councillor Seanie Power has been elected the new Cathaoirleach of the Comeragh District.
Cllr Power was elected to the position at the AGM of the district, which was held in Dungarvan on Wednesday morning.
He was nominated for the role by his party colleague, Cllr Liam Brazil, who described him as a “good country lad who knows his stuff”.
Cllr Brazil added that the role would be “nothing new” to him after 12 years as a councillor.
That proposal was seconded by the outgoing Cathaoirleach, Fianna Fáil councillor John O’Leary.
He described Cllr Power as an “outstanding public representative” and noted that he has held the position before.
Upon his election, Cllr Power thanked all his fellow councillors and the staff of Waterford City and County Council for their support.
He reflected that “the longer you are a councillor, the busier you get” but said he never turns off his phone and is always ready to help people in his local community.

Cllr Power expressed hope for the future of the district and acknowledged the work that is being done to improve the local area.
He concluded by paying tribute to his wife Nora, who was present in the council chamber. He thanked her for “putting up” with him for the 37 years of their marriage.
Cllr Power noted that it had been a special couple of days, with his election as Cathaoirleach coming just days after his daughter’s wedding.
Cllr John O’Leary was subsequently elected as Leas-Cathaoirleach for the year ahead.
