Council launches public consultation process

Members of the public and key stakeholders are being asked for their views on proposals to build an extension at Dungarven Fire Station.

Waterford City and County Council has announced its intention to extend the existing mechanics' workshop at the fire station which is located on Shandon Road, Kilrush in the town.

According to documents just published, the proposed works will see the workshop being extended by 11 square metres to give a total floor space of 122 square metres.

The single-storey steel portal will be 8 metres tall when completed.

The detailed plans can be viewed online or, during office hours, at the council's customer care offices in both Dungarvan town and Waterford city.

Submissions can be lodged up until August 23.

The local authority says an Appropriate Assessment Screening has been completed under the Habitats Directive and that the proposal has also undergone screening for Environmental Impact Assessment.

A public notice on its website states: "The Planning Authority has determined that there will be no likelihood of significant effects on the environment arising from the proposed development and, therefore, an Environmental Impact Assessment is not required."
