Stephen Molumphy set to be named new Waterford senior hurling manager

Former Waterford captain Stephen Molumphy is set to be named the county’s new senior hurling manager, according to reports elsewhere.
The Irish Examiner has reported that Molumphy will be appointed as the new manager in the coming days.
It follows interviews which were conducted by a five-person selection committee over the weekend.
Molumphy played senior hurling for Waterford between 2006 and 2014 and captained the team between 2009 and 2011.
During his time in the white and blue, he won two Munster titles, an Allianz League title and an All-Star.
Molumphy’s managerial career began with the Castlemartyr intermediate hurling team in Cork in 2016.
In 2018, he joined Davy Fitzgerald's Wexford senior hurling management team as a selector.
During his time with the Yellow Bellies, he helped guide the team to their first Leinster title in 15 years.
In 2020, the Ballyduff Upper man returned to the Déise to become part of Liam’s Cahill backroom staff.
However, his time back with Waterford was cut short due to work commitments with the Irish Defence Forces.
In September 2021, Molumphy was appointed as manager of the Kerry senior hurling team.
He subsequently guided The Kingdom to their first ever Joe McDonagh Cup Final, in which they lost narrowly to Antrim.
After three years, Molumphy was forced to resign due to an assignment with the EUMAM (EU Military Assistance Mission).
He most recently was posted in Brussels where he regularly travelled to Ukraine.
His imminent appointment comes after the Waterford GAA county board decided against extending Peter Queally’s term in charge.
The Déise failed to qualify from the Munster Championship again this year, having suffered defeats to Clare, Cork and Limerick.
