Vimal Yoganathan (2), Reyes Cleary and Rylan Brownlie also struck for the Reds.

Barnsley romped through to the second round of the FA Cup after thrashing National League Aldershot 7-2 at Oakwell.

A Cameron McGeehan hat-trick, Vimal Yoganathan brace and one each from Reyes Cleary and Rylan Brownlie ensured the Reds did not slip up, with Anisius Lewis scoring twice for the visitors.

McGeehan opened the scoring in the 20th minute, powerfully heading in Jubril Okedina’s cross past Nick Hayes in the Aldershot goal.

The hosts doubled their advantage six minutes later as, after a scramble in the box, Cleary calmly slotted the ball into the back of the net from close range.

Barnsley made it 3-0 in the 33rd minute through Yoganathan, who slotted under Hayes before he added a fourth on the stroke of half-time, turning home Cleary’s cross from just inside the area.

McGeehan scored Barnsley’s fifth on 62 minutes from close range and completed his hat-trick in the 67th minute with a wonderful finish after a well-worked corner from Luca Connell.

Lewis pulled one back in the 75th minute and scored again 11 minutes later, chipping the ball in both times to send the travelling fans wild. Brownlie notched Barnsley’s seventh just a minute later with a great curling strike.
