The Hatters moved up to second place in Sky Bet League One.

In-form striker Kyle Wootton scored the only goal as Stockport moved up to second place in Sky Bet League One with a 1-0 win over Bromley.

Wootton’s first-half header took his tally for the season to nine, eight of those in the league, and secured three points that move the Hatters into the automatic promotion spots.

Bromley, meanwhile, have fallen deeper into the relegation zone having now recorded back-to-back losses.

The visitors had a great chance to take the lead on the quarter-hour, but George Saville nodded the ball wide from point-blank range.

It proved to be a costly miss as Wootton opened the scoring four minutes later, heading the ball home after Jack Diamond had hung a cross into the box from the right.

Jason Adigun, making his first league start for the club, had two good opportunities to double Stockport’s advantage early in the second half but goalkeeper Grant Smith was on hand to save the midfielder’s efforts.

Smith also did well to keep out Oliver Norwood’s swerving shot from distance in the 61st minute, parrying out the ball before it was forced behind for a corner with Wootton lurking.

Further chances came and went, most notably when Ethan Ennis could not quite get on the end of fellow substitute Harry Wood’s brilliant delivery from the left.

One goal was ultimately enough, though, for Jim McNulty’s side, with Bromley rarely threatening at the other end.
