Mitch Pinnock’s deflected free-kick drew the struggling visitors level only for Warne’s side to score three second-half goals.

Paul Warne hailed MK Dons’ response to a shock just before half-time as they made it back-to-back wins with a 4-1 success against Bromley.

MK Dons scored after 40 minutes as Alex Gilbey chipped a ball forward for Aaron Collins to guide past Grant Smith.

Bromley equalised in first-half stoppage time as Mitch Pinnock’s indirect free-kick was deflected past Will Dennis.

The hosts restored their lead after 62 minutes as Collins won the ball back and charged forward before finding the bottom corner via a slight deflection. Gilbey then headed in Ben Wiles’ cross in the 71st minute to make it 3-1, before Collins picked out Charlie Goode to guide home the Dons’ fourth.

Victory was the Dons’ third win in four, while managerless Bromley are now winless in five league matches.

Warne said: “It’s amazing how quickly a season can turn with back-to-back maximum points. I thought we were good value for it tonight.

“I didn’t fully enjoy the first half – I thought we started the game well and then it felt like the lads thought this would be alright and we could enjoy ourselves and it was a bit flicky and soft and I didn’t enjoy it.

“I thought the lads needed the shock that if we continued to play like that with a 1-0 lead and they score late on, we wouldn’t have time to come back at it. So I didn’t actually mind (the equaliser), though I know that sounds a bit odd, and then second half we were more than handsome for the win and the lads can take a lot of credit for that.”

Bromley’s caretaker boss Byron Webster was left unimpressed by how the game got away from his side.

He said: “The second goal is poor. It’s poor, poor. And I want to see character and bravery and I just didn’t see that.

“A lot of teams are getting beat 3-1, 4-1, 5-1, it happens throughout the league, but for me, as long as I’m here, it has to change and has to be that if we go behind, we stay in the game. It’s a long 96-98 minutes now and we can’t keep giving ourselves a mountain to climb.

“We’ll look back at it then keep going. I don’t want to be too high or too low. You have to stay level as there’s another game to go, and we’ll go again.

“That’s just the way it is, and we’ll pick a team that’s going to go to Wigan and put up a Bromley performance with a Bromley attitude and hopefully get a win.”
