Shoemark Prince for a day with Newmarket four-timer
Jockey won the feature for Godolphin and had three more for Ed Walker.
Kieran Shoemark enjoyed a fine afternoon at Newmarket picking up both feature races on the card, including the rearranged St Simon Stakes on Aegean Prince.
Charlie Appleby’s four-year-old was sent off the 10-11 favourite to follow up his Old Borough Cup win at Haydock last month and duly obliged, seeing off Andrew Balding’s Royal Playwright by two lengths.
Shoemark told Racing TV: “He got away well and I knew I was going to go forward. He got a lovely lead even though I didn’t think they went overly quick.
“He quickened nicely and Al Qareem fell away quicker than I thought he might, but ultimately my fellow quickened well and he was straight to the line.
“I actually felt he would come on for it a bit physically. He ran 55 days ago and he’s a lightly-raced four-year-old. I think physically he will come on for this and he possibly might be getting a little bit quicker even.
“He’s a classy individual ultimately and gave me a lovely feel. He’s got a wonderful attitude.”
Shoemark had earlier guided Ed Walker’s Sienna Storm to an impressive success as she also justified favouritism when dropped back in trip for the Listed Irish Stallion Farms EBF “Bosra Sham” Fillies’ Stakes.
Sent off favourite when beaten a length in the Oh So Sharp Stakes over seven furlongs on the Rowley Mile last time out, she finished her year on a high by running out a handsome six-length winner at odds of 11-8.
Shoemark had four on the afternoon having also won the first division of the seven-furlong maiden on Solo Quest (5-4 favourite) and the six-furlong novice event on Venetian Storm (7-2), both also trained by Walker.
Prior to the feature events on the card, Harry Charlton unleashed an exciting youngster when 4-1 chance Covet romped to a taking three-length win in the German G1 Racecourses Thank World Pool British EBF Novice Stakes.
