The veteran striker opened the scoring at The New Lawn.

Veteran striker Will Grigg marked his Forest Green debut with a goal as they beat Eastleigh 2-0 at The New Lawn in the National League.

Signed on a free transfer from Chesterfield last week, the 35-year-old had started Saturday’s game at Barrow, which was abandoned after 14 minutes due to a waterlogged pitch.

Grigg was denied by Nick Townsend inside two minutes before the visiting goalkeeper also saved from Kyle Kelly, with Sean Etaluku’s deflected effort then clipping the top of the crossbar.

The deadlock was broken just before the half-hour mark when Grigg poked the ball home and, after Jayden Clarke also hit the woodwork, Fil Mabete wrapped up a first Forest Green win in six with 14 minutes left while condemning Eastleigh to a third defeat in four.
