This unique and fascinating collection of images, created merging old and new photographs of Derry, were created in 2013 as part of ‘The City Revisited - A Rephotographic Study’ project.
The project was an element of the BT Portrait of a City initiative which was launched as part of Derry’s City of Culture celebrations to bring together a massive archive of photographs of the city and its residents.
In ‘The City Revisited’ project, two photographers, Paul McGuckin and Andrew Horsman, gathered a series of photographs taken in Derry around 100 years ago. They then re-visited the precise locations where the images were taken.
Once the exact location was found, they re-photographed the images, using the same camera that was used originally, a large format, 5" x 4" camera. The new and the original images were then merged to show the changes that have occurred over the past 100 years, in a unique, single image.
The below image shows the houses which previously ran alongside Derry's Walls.
