This year's race was sponsored by Bundoran Physiotherapy, Call of the Wild Outdoor Sports Sligo, Kernans Spar & McCoskers Centra Supermarkets both of Ballyshannon and Core Timing Sports.
This particular event was the Sprint distance which includes a 750m swim followed by 24km cycle and finishing with a 5k run, with 142 competitors taking the the water under the watchful eyes of the many safety kayakers provided by North West Canoe Club.
First out of the water was Michael Holland from the Omagh Triclub with Doherty leading the female field, ahead of the 24km cycle element along the N15 Ballyshannon to Bundoran road. The final leg was a return to the same transition area for the 5k run element. The run itself took the competitors under the Assaroe footbridge and out towards the Knader area for a distance of 2.5k before turning back and home to the finish line. McLoughlin from the NW Triclub came home in a final finish time of one hour seven minutes and 22 seconds. Just 29 seconds behind was Conor Maguire from Omagh TC in second and third placed Ronan Dorrian was next with 1:08:52.
For the ladies, the winner was Doherty, also from the NW Triclub, in a final finish time of 1:22: 42. Just five seconds afterwards was Clodadh Cumiskey from Liquid Motions TC. Third was Gemma Skeath from Oamgh TC with 1:22:24. The race was completed by almost all 140 competitors with no crashes or accidents reported, which also included a number of relay teams, juveniles and seniors over 70.
The second race event that the MSC Triclub are hosting is the even more popular Mullaghmore Sprint Triathlon Race which currently has a provisional race date set for September 7.
