In Pictures: Beautifully carved Heritage Seat unveiled in Mountcharles

The bench was unveiled at a Heritage Week event which included a tour of Hall House in Mountcharles

On Saturday, August 17, Christ Church, Mountcharles opened its doors to welcome everyone to view their display of items from yesteryear as part of Heritage Week. The event included the unveiling of a new, beautifully carved Heritage Seat. Click on the arrows to see Siobhan McGowan's photos.

The 160 year old church had farm tools and machinery, crockery, light fittings, cookery items etc on display as well as old and rare Bibles, old photos and extracts from the first rector Rev.Ben Darcus’ notebook.

Two tours of the Hall House and estate ground were also part of the day thanks to the generosity of the current owners - with over 85 people on each tour. The tours included a short talk by Mrs. Helen Meehan on the history of the Conyngham Family and the Hall House.

In the afternoon a new Heritage Seat at Christchurch was unveiled by former estate worker Mr James Madigan and Mrs Margaret Robinson who was born on the estate.

This beautiful seat has been expertly carved by Paul Kenny from a fallen tree on the estate grounds - resulting in a wonderful addition to the church grounds.

Refreshments were served throughout the day to everyone who visited from far and wide and those who attended thoroughly enjoyed their day with all expressing appreciation to the Kennedy family for allowing them the unique opportunity of visiting the Hall House.
