PICTURES: Emily Blunt visits Kildare for Netflix film shoot

Filming on a new major Netflix movie starring Emily Blunt and Andrew Scott got underway in Rathangan earlier today. 

The town was transported back in time with old cars, vans and jeeps parked up along the street to compliment the newly painted buildings. The former Hacketts supermarket has a whole new temporary facade to create the exterior of an old style cinema.

The former butchers on Bridge Street has also benefited, with a new orange shop front with the title, Dolans stenciled over the front door. The “drapery side” of Ma’s Kitchen has also got a make over reminiscent of old Ireland. The old bookies has also taken the guise of an undertakers. 

Filming on Walk the Blue Fields, an adaptation of a romantic short story by Claire Keegan, is due to continue until March 20 and runs from 1pm to 11.30pm each day. The story is set in Bunclody, Co. Wexford with the signposts at the centre of the town changed to reflect this.

The production crew were busy in the town from early this morning, putting the finishing touches to shop fronts and window displays. A mini bus transported some of the actors up from Noone's car park (the Old Convent) where they congregated in the Burrow pub. Shortly after 1pm, a black car pulled up outside Brendan Conlan's salesroom, and out jumped Emily Blunt. She wore jeans and a beige jacket with her hair pulled back in a casual pony tail. 

Filming began as traffic was controlled with a stop and go system, supervised by gardaí.
