Veteran Irish activist and film producer Lelia Doolan is currently in Co Kildare as part of her ongoing Walk for Peace.
The 91-year-old began her walk at Shannon Airport on March 31st and has already covered a significant stretch of the more than 220km route.
Her arrival in Monasterevin marks the halfway point of the journey.
Following her stop in Monasterevin, Ms Doolan is due in Newbridge on Saturday and Naas on Sunday, before continuing on towards Dublin. She hopes to reach the Dáil by April 15th.
Ms Doolan’s campaign is focused on raising awareness and prompting political action around the use of Shannon Airport by US military aircraft. She has called on the Taoiseach and government ministers to meet her upon her arrival in Dublin, urging them to address long-standing concerns about alleged breaches of international law linked to the airport’s use since 1981.
Ms Doolan's journey has been described by supporters as both symbolic and practical, highlighting Ireland’s role in global conflicts while bringing communities together along the route.
Remaining stops on the walk include Rathcoole before the final leg into Dublin.
