Kilkenny’s Parkrun reached a milestone earlier this year when participants celebrated the local event’s ninth anniversary.

The weekend saw 174 people run, jog and walk the course, of whom 19 were first timers and 27 recorded new personal bests. Representatives of 12 different clubs took part.

The free, fun, and friendly weekly 5k community event takes place in Castle Park on Saturdays at 9.30am during the parkrun season. Thousands of people have taken part over the past nine years.

Deputy Mayor of Kilkenny Martin Brett turned out on the day to show his support. Organisers paid tribute to local businesses who show their support, as well as the OPW Kilkenny for facilitating and maintaining the route in the beautiful surroundings of Kilkenny Castle Park.
