PICTURES: Laois Irish Dancing school sweep awards at World Championships

From April 12 to April 19, dancers across the world took part in the Irish Dancing World Championships in Killarney. 

The Lynam School of Irish Dancing in Laois took home many awards and titles.

Stradbally dancer Bobby Kinsella retained his world title in the Boys u/11 category. 

Bobby travelled to Killarney with 23 of his fellow Lynam school dancers, who also excelled at the premier event.

Laoise Delaney from The Rock won first place in a solo reel, and placed third overall in the u/15 girls category, beating over 169 competitors.

Her sister Rioghan Delaney placed ninth overall in the u/13 girls category, out of 168 dancers. 

Darragh Kelly, from Borris-in-Ossory, placed 8th overall in the boys u/17 category, dancing a year out of age.

Zara Culleton, from Mountmellick, also achieved a top ten position overall, placing 9th in her Championship u/13 out of 148 competitors. 

The Lynam school had further championship success, with dancers placing in their respective age groups. 

Alexandra Wright- 12th overall u/21

Rebecca Donegan- 13th overall u/20

Lauren Culleton- 14th overall u/17

Grace Shaw- 19th overall u/17

Sophia Delaney- 19th overall u/19 

Maisy Aylward- 20th overall u/14 

Amy O’Neill- 22nd overall u/14

Sara Hewitt- 24th overall u/19

Jessica O Reilly- 34th overall u/14

Fia O Donnell- 35th overall u/16

Clara Drennan- 39th overall u/10. 

Aoife Connolly, Aine O Neill, Kieran O Reilly, also won solo medals in their respective age groups. 

Chloe Mc Donald, Tina Bergin, Mary Kate Moore & Anabel Lanham performed 2 excellent rounds. 

"Gabrielle, Carmel & Orla are so proud of their dancers," a spokesperson for the Lynam School of Dancing told the Leinster Express / Laois Live.
"The level of commitment, hard work and dedication that their dancers give is just incredible. The dancers have one week off, then it’s back to the grind to prepare for Worlds 2026," they finished.
