A Civic Reception was held at Laois County Council Chambers to honour the 2025 Rose of Tralee, Katelyn Cummins.
The event celebrated Katelyn’s historic achievement as the first-ever Laois Rose to win the international title in the 65-year history of the competition.
The event was hosted by Cathaoirleach of Laois County Council, Cllr Barry Walsh, and attended by Councillors Paddy Buggy, Ollie Clooney, Caroline Dwane Stanley, John Joe Fennelly, John King and Tommy Mulligan, as well as Deputies Seán Fleming TD and Brian Stanley TD. Senator Maria McCormack was also in attendance at the event.
In his address, Cllr Walsh welcomed Katelyn, her family and friends, and special guest Anthony O’Gara, CEO of the Rose of Tralee Festival, noting the significance of her achievement for both County Laois and the wider Irish community.
Speaking at the event, Cllr Walsh said: "You are a magnificent ambassador for the Rose of Tralee festival, bringing your charm and authenticity to Irish communities across the globe.
"You have shown us that the “Rose” is not just a title, but a demonstration of strength, intelligence and passion. As an apprentice electrician, you are shattering stereotypes and inspiring young people throughout Ireland and around the world to pursue their dreams."
Katelyn, who grew up on a dairy farm in Ballyouskill, is an apprentice electrician whose advocacy for apprenticeships, vocational education, and women in STEM has earned widespread recognition. She has been celebrated for challenging stereotypes and showing that determination, hard work, and staying true to oneself can create powerful opportunities.
The Cathaoirleach also paid tribute to the strong community support behind her, acknowledging her family, local supporters, sponsors, and the Laois Rose of Tralee Committee.
Katelyn also spoke at the event. Thanking her community she said: "The support that every single one of you have given me, over the last seven months and over the last twelve months, has meant so much to me. I just want to say I’m so grateful for every single one of you for everything you’ve done for me over the past twelve months, but also throughout my whole life."
Katelyn Cummins was presented with a Certificate of Recognition, a bouquet of flowers and a gift of a crystal glass vase to mark the occasion.
