The striker took advantage of a howler from Ipswich goalkeeper Christian Walton.

Another Evanilson goal helped fire Marco Rose’s Bournemouth to an eighth straight victory with a hard-fought 2-1 win at Ipswich.

Evanilson failed to score in his first six appearances of the season but found the net for a fifth consecutive Premier League match and made it seven goals in eight after five minutes at Portman Road.

It came after a terrible error by Ipswich goalkeeper Christian Walton, who tried and failed to dribble around the Brazilian forward, before worse followed for the hosts 27 seconds into the second half.

Bournemouth went two up when Ryan Christie’s effort deflected off Leif Davis and in for an own goal.

Gary O’Neil watched Ipswich rally against his former club, with a Jack Clarke penalty halving the deficit with 17 minutes left, but the hosts could not find an equaliser to make it only one win from their last seven matches.

Bournemouth arrived in Suffolk eager to complete an almost perfect month since the last international break with another three points and Alex Scott returned to the bench in another boost for Rose.

Ipswich started strongly, with the recalled Daizen Maeda an early threat, but the Cherries were gifted a fifth-minute opener.

Ipswich captain Dara O’Shea passed the ball back to goalkeeper Walton, who took a touch and tried to dribble past Evanilson. Instead he was tackled and the Bournemouth forward rolled the ball into the empty net.

An end-to-end passage of play followed, with Walton able to slightly atone when he blocked a weak poked effort by Marcus Tavernier from close range after good work by Rayan.

At the other end, after Emersonn sliced wide from outside the area, Jaden Philogene’s bright run ended with a routine save for Djordje Petrovic.

Bournemouth regained control as Rose barked orders from the touchline and could have added a second before the break, but Antonio Silva sent a header inches wide and Walton tipped over Justin Kluivert’s strike from range.

However, Ipswich started the second half in nightmare fashion too, with the Cherries given a helping hand to score again after 27 seconds.

Abdoul Ouattara was initially at fault by giving the ball away to Evanilson and, after possession was moved on to Christie, the Bournemouth midfielder’s rising strike deflected off first Issa Diop and then the chest of Ipswich left-back Davis on its way in.

O’Neil turned to his bench soon after, with Clarke and Zian Flemming introduced, but it was almost 3-0 when Evanilson flicked an effort across the face of goal and James Hill headed over from close range.

Abdul Fatawu was sent on next for Ipswich and out of nowhere they were given a lifeline with 18 minutes left when Lewis Cook caught Ouattara in the area following Fatawu’s through-ball.

Clarke tucked away the spot-kick to set up a grandstand finish before Flemming nodded over to further raise belief inside Portman Road.

Another forward in Chuba Akpom was brought on, but after Julio Enciso had a free-kick tipped over and then sent another wide, Bournemouth stood strong to see out victory.
