Watch: Mary Coughlan on how a career in politics is challenging but rewarding

The former Tanaiste was a guest at the SHE See Her Elected conference in Donegal Town

Former Tanaiste Mary Coughlan was one of a number of women to take part in the See Her Elected conference in the Central Hotel.

At the event on Friday, she shared what it was like to grow up in a family steeped in politics. Mary also spoke about how she embraced the challenges of political life, including being the first woman to become Minister For Agriculture.

She explained that while it was a career that required much  commitment and sacrifice, it was also extremely rewarding.

Afterwards, she shared with our Donegal Live readers - particularly women who are considering going into politics -  a flavour of what a career in politics involves.

It is clear that politics is still very close to Mary's heart, though she is still ruling out a return to the political arena!
