Watch: Frolicking dolphins visit Fanad Lighthouse

Recently captured footage shows dolphins arriving in sight and swimming up close to the lighthouse

At Fanad Lighthouse in summer months visitors can be lucky enough to see dolphins, whales and basking sharks swimming nearby.

Recently captured footage shows dolphins arriving in sight and swimming up close to the lighthouse, “We thought they were coming up the steps to check in to one of the cottages,” Fanad Lighthouse joked.

Fanad Head is a designated Special Area of Conservation, Special Protection Area and Proposed Natural Heritage Area, with many flora and fauna.

It is is one of the Great Lighthouses of Ireland, situated between Lough Swilly and Mulroy Bay. Considered one of three signature discovery points on the Wild Atlantic Way, it is an 1817 working lighthouse available to visit and book a room.

You can even take a tour and climb to the top of the lighthouse for surrounding views of the rugged landscape and Atlantic Ocean.
