Niamh McLaughlin admitted she was shocked to even be nominated for the Senior Players Player of the Year award last month.
McLaughlin, who was also shortlisted for an All-Star at midfield, was joined at the Bonnington Dublin Hotel with her teammates Evelyn McGinley, Tanya Kennedy, Nicole McLaughlin, Niamh Hegarty and Geraldine McLaughlin.
The Donegal captain claimed the All-Star award at midfield and then, at the last award of the night, won the top award, the Senior Players Player of the Year, as was captured by TG4 Sport.
"Being nominated for an All-Star was enough and then to be nominated for Players Player of the Year is humbling," McLaughlin told event host Marty Morrissey. "I'm a bit stuck for words. We always has great role models with club and county. We still have a wee bit to go but we are working on it.
McLaughlin won the vote ahead of Kerry star Louise Ní Mhuircheartaigh, who was top scorer in the 2022 TG4 All-Ireland Senior Championship with a haul of 4-24 and Meath's All-Ireland winner Emma Duggan.
"I'm really grateful," McLaughlin added. "Kerry and Meath are the top teams but we don't feel like we're too far behind them."
