WATCH: Delaney admits he thought 'the game was over' as he seals Kilkenny re-election

Stay up to date with Election '24 on Kilkenny Live

On Count 5 the last two seats of the Castlecomer LEA were filled earlier tonight as Michael Delaney (FF) and Maurice Shortall (Ind) secured election.

Mr Delaney's election confirms he will serve for the second successive term after he first secured passage to the local council chamber in 2019.

Outgoing Sinn Féin councillor Denis Hynes was defeated on the last count.

Upon his election, Cllr Delaney told Kilkenny Live he thought 'the game was over' after unfavourable Saturday tallies and was 'delighted' to get over the finishing line this evening (Sunday).
