An Taoiseach, Leo Varadkar, paid a visit to Leitrim Village today to see the destruction and damage caused by a freak tornado yesterday afternoon.
He met with local business owners and householders and took time to visit each of the properties that were damaged by the tornado.
He also visited the marina where he witnessed a number of overturned cruisers and damage to a number of jetties.
A large number of local people and elected representatives were present, as were members of Leitrim Fire Service, staff of Leitrim County Council and a sizeable media presence.
"I think it's only when you really see it you get an appreciation for the explosive force of a whirlwind and that's essentially what happened in this village yesterday," the Taoiseach said.
He thanked the council and emergency staff who attended and helped to clean up.
He said there will be a cabinet meeting tomorrow and he is very keen to put in place the support that the people of Leitrim need.
