WATCH: Six arrested during major garda operation following reported 'abduction' in Dublin

Several properties raided during early-morning operation targeting west Dublin crime gang

Six people have now been arrested by gardai as part of a major operation targeting an organised crime gang in Dublin.

It has been reported that the operation, involving more than 100 gardai, follows the alleged abduction and torture of another man during the week.

Footage released by gardai shows members from various units, including the Armed Support Unit, being deployed as they carried out several raids and made arrests early this Saturday morning.

All of the properties are located in the greater Blanchardstown area of west Dublin.

Confirming details of the operation, a garda spokesperson said: "A number of residential properties in the Dublin 15 area have been entered under warrant and are currently being searched."

In an update, gardai confirmed that five men were initially arrested early this Saturday morning and that a woman, aged in her 30s, was arrested a number of hours later.

The five men, aged in their 20s and 40s, are being detained at garda stations in west Dublin under section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act 2007 for the investigation of alleged offences contrary to the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act 1997.

The woman is being detained under the provisions of Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act.

Commenting on the operation Chief Superintendent Michael McNulty of Blanchardstown garda station said: "This morning's operation is directly targeting the activities of an organised criminal gang in west Dublin. In An Garda Síochána, we understand the impact that organised crime has on our neighbourhoods and communities. Our commitment to tackling these threats remains steadfast, and this operation is a clear demonstration of our intent and determination to keep people safe.”

Investigations are continuing and one property is still being searched.
