Every now and again on the hurling field supporters are treated to something extraordinary and so it was last Friday night when Dylan Fogarty, a promising teenage hurler, scored a wonder point for his club Boherlahan Dualla in the Mid Tipperary Intermediate hurling final against Drom-Inch in Drombane.
After gathering the ball on his own half back line a burst of pace took him away from his initial marker and, after showing a clean pair of heels, the ground was covered from one 65 to the other before an accurate peach of a point dropped over the crossbar.
The power and skill of the strike, which sailed over the bar at the roadside end in Drombane, raised the roars of Boherlahan supporters and neutrals alike.
The ball was struck from the Drom-Inch 45, from out by the sideline, and it is fair to say that the strike wouldn't have been out of place in Croke Park at the weekend.
Boherlahan, a club once more on the rise in hurling circles, led 1-8 to 0-6 at the break before another surge in the second half saw them secure the cup on a scoreline of 1-13 to 0-11.
A powerful team performance, aided by an exceptional score from Dylan Fogarty, propels Boherlahan in to the county series with confidence and silverware already on board.
