WATCH: Musicians provide top entertainment on a blustery St Patrick's Day in Templemore

The Templemore Pipe Band provided just one of the great performances of the afternoon

Festivities are underway in Templemore this afternoon as the town marks St Patrick’s Day with music, prayer and community spirit on the Square.

Music began playing from around 12pm, setting the tone for the day’s celebrations. However, blustery conditions have so far kept crowds smaller than expected, with many people arriving gradually as the afternoon unfolds.

The formal proceedings began with Fr Hayes blessing the shamrock, a traditional moment that officially kicked off the St Patrick’s Day gathering in the town.

Following the blessing, the crowd was led in a St Patrick’s Day prayer, bringing those assembled together for a brief moment of reflection during the celebrations.

There was a warm welcome shortly afterwards for the arrival of the Templemore McDonagh Pipe Band, whose music added to the festive atmosphere on the Square.

Adding to the sense of occasion, Templemore boys performed a rousing rendition of Ireland’s Call, drawing applause from those gathered despite the windy conditions.

With the celebrations now well underway, organisers are hopeful that more people will make their way to the Square as the afternoon progresses and the St Patrick’s Day festivities continue in Templemore.
