Call to clamp-down on illegal tree cutting at Merlin Woods

Galway Bay fm newsroom - City Councillor Declan McDonnell has called on the authorities to clamp-down on illegal tree cutting in Merlin Woods.

The Independent Councillor says up to 70 trees have been cut down in the woodland to be used as domestic firewood in the past number of months.

He says the illegal activity is mainly happening at weekends and particularly on Sundays when wardens are off duty.

Speaking on Galway Talks, Cllr Mc Donnell says help is available for those who need fuel, and such activity is destroying an important local amenity.
