The development is expected to be delivered by the end of 2028

A Galway company has won a tender to deliver 183 new affordable and social homes for Ireland.

Coolsivna Construction Group will be in charge of the new project on the grounds of the former Mungret College in Limerick with members from The Land Development Agency (LDA) and Limerick City and County Council (LCCC) turning sod on the land this week.

The development is expected to be delivered by the end of 2028 with construction work time coming in at around 30 months.

Phase one will include 14, two bed houses; sixty, three bed houses and twenty five, four bed houses as part of a mix of detached and semi detached houses and duplexes.

The LCCC has secured planning permission for 250 new homes on the site with LDA buddying up with the councils to develop the first 183.

The remainder of homes - alongside a planned creche, community space and public plaza - will be controlled by Clúid which is an Approved Housing Body and integrated scheme for older people.

John Moran, Mayor of Limerick, said: “Since my election, I have driven changes to the governance of Limerick housing and infrastructure projects and welcome the new shared delivery team, which brings all parties to the table to unblock obstacles and keep focus on delivery.

“I have also sat at both the operating and strategic boards myself to better understand the hold-ups and what needs to be done to speed up delivery.”

James Browne, Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage added: “Being on the ground here in Limerick to see first-hand the progress being made in delivering much-needed homes is very positive. This development demonstrates the State’s central role in directly delivering new homes at pace and at scale.

John Coleman, Chief Executive of the LDA, said: “The start of construction at Mungret Park View is an exciting milestone for the LDA’s activity in Limerick. We are excited to be partnering with Limerick City and County Council on this important project, which will deliver much-needed affordable homes in a great location.”
