Gardaí and emergency services at scene of accident in Galway city

Gardaí and emergency services are at the scene of a road traffic collision on the Tuam Road just outside Galway city.

The crash occurred when two cars collided near the turn for Riverside on the Tuam Road. An ambulance is currently at the scene.

The accident has caused major traffic disruption in the city, with long tailbacks reported in both directions on the road. College Road is also currently closed as Connacht’s rugby match against Saracens gets underway at the Dexcom Stadium, adding to the congestion on the eastern approaches to the city.

A spokesman for An Garda Síochána confirmed that a report in relation to a two-vehicle collision had been received around 4:45pm this evening. No injuries were reported at the time, he added.
