“CU in 45 Galway x,” Kingfishr told fans on Instagram, surprising fans with an impromptu gig in Galway, returning to a spot where they once busked for a handful of people

You can usually catch a decent tune at the popular busking spot where Mainguard Street meets Shop Street, but it’s not every day the band on the corner have spent 17 weeks at number one. On Saturday morning, Kingfishr were back for a surprise gig opposite Taaffes.

Before the band played a note, frontman Eddie Keogh recalled busking on that corner four years ago, when only four or so people stopped to listen. This time, by half ten, locals and tourists packed the streets around Taaffes, with the crowd stretching down High Street and Mainguard Street.

Among the songs they played was ‘Killeagh’, the hit that took them to number one, written for band member Eoin Fitzgibbon’s hometown in Co Cork and its hurling club.

The band, whose second album Weight of the Feather is due out on April 9, 2027, had a busy day ahead of them. They were due in Limerick at 1.30pm, with Cork down for 5pm and Dublin at 9.30pm.

Back on the road, the three posted a photo with a message for the Galway crowd. “Thank you Galway that was very fun,” they wrote.
