48 Mayo sports clubs set to benefit from Club Development funding

Mayo Sports Partnership allocated €32,400 to a list of clubs and community organisations
Many Mayo clubs and associations are set to benefit from Mayo Sports Partnership (MSP) new Club Development funding. A list of 48 groups will split a €32,400 allocation, which was announced at a recent MSP Committee meeting.
The support is possible through Sport Ireland and Dormant Account funding.
The allocation was announced by Lyndon Jones, Mayo Sports Partnership Chairperson, and Cllr Sean Carey, Caitheoirleach of Mayo County Council.
“Every year Mayo Sports Partnership allocates a small amount of funding to clubs/organisations around the county that enables them to deliver small scale participation opportunities to those who may need assistance most,” said Lyndon Jones.
Some of the recipients of this year’s funding include sports such as Badminton, Softball, Petanque, Inline Hockey, Pickleball, Rounders, participation initiatives for people with a disability along with volunteer coach education training in Basketball, Swimming and First Aid.

Sport Ireland’s Irish Sports Monitor 2025 survey showed that more people than even have been taking part in sport, with over 2 million people participating in a sport activity on a weekly basis.
The top five most popular sports are personal exercise (20%), swimming (8%), running (7%), cycling (4%), and weights (4%). Next are Gaelic football, soccer, dancing, yoga and Pilates (all at 3%), then golf at 2%.
