MET Éireann is warning that damage to homes and business in Mayo is ‘likely’ due to expected bad weather overnight.

The forecaster has issued a Status Orange rain warning for three counties, including Mayo, as a band of “very heavy and persistent rain” makes its way across the west coast.

The warning, which also applies to Donegal and Galway comes into effect at 1am on Saturday and will remain valid until 7am.

In addition to damage being caused to property, flooding and “very difficult travelling conditions” are likely.

Separately, a Status Yellow rain warning for Mayo will come into effect at 9pm this Friday.

The warning, which also applies to Donegal, Galway, Leitrim, Sligo and Clare will remain valid until 9am on Saturday.

Localised flooding, difficult travelling conditions and lightning damage are some of the possible impacts of the warning, Met Éireann has warned.

A third weather warning, for Cork and Kerry, has also been issued by Met Éireann.

That Status Yellow alert will come into effect at 9am on Saturday and will and remain in place until 9pm.

Met Éireann says there will be a spell of persistent rain, turning heavy at times.

Potential impacts include localised flooding, difficult travelling conditions and outdoor events impacted.
