Mayo artist Genevieve King’s watercolour presented to Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney

Mayo artist Genevieve King has had one of her original watercolour paintings gifted to Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney during a recent visit to Westport.
The work, Boathouse, Last Mooring, was presented by the Grace Hotel, Westport Estate and Portwest at the Grace Hotel ahead of the Prime Minister’s departure for the G7 Summit.
The painting was warmly received, with King noting that Prime Minister Carney complimented the work and showed interest in her wider artistic practice. The Irish Ambassador to Canada was also present and expressed admiration for her work during the event.
King is an award-winning Irish artist working across textiles and painting. Her textile work has received recognition from Mayo County Council, the Arts Council of Ireland, and the RDS Craft Competition, and her work is held in public and private collections, including Mayo County Council.
While long established in textile practice, King has recently gained increasing recognition for her watercolour paintings exploring landscape and seascape themes inspired by the west of Ireland.
She has an extensive exhibition record in Ireland and internationally, including an Arts Council-supported exhibition in Philadelphia in 2022. She is a regular exhibitor at Custom House Studios and Gallery in Westport.
Upcoming exhibitions include participation in a mentorship, curator-led group show at The Linenhall Arts Centre, Castlebar (opening 10 July), involvement in Galway International Arts Festival with Artspace Studios Galway, and selection for the international Carrying the Songs exhibition at Pulchri Studio, The Hague (4–26 July 2026), in collaboration with Hamilton Gallery, Sligo and the Irish embassy.
