Mayo Cultural Companions meet up announced for Castlebar

Older people across Mayo are invited to join a free network celebrating arts, culture and social connection
Mayo County Council Arts Service has announced a Cultural Companions Meet Up for members of the Mayo Cultural Companions Network, taking place in Castlebar later this month.
The event will be held on Wednesday, September 30, from 11am to 2.30pm at The Ellison Hotel, and both new and existing members of the network are invited to attend.
The September gathering will focus on the findings of the network’s previous Connect Café, held in May 2026. The event will begin with a short presentation on the findings, followed by a brief question-and-answer session.
Musicians from Music & Health Ireland will then join the group, bringing what organisers describe as their “trademark tunes and chat”, before attendees enjoy some light refreshments.
The Mayo Cultural Companions Network is part of Age & Opportunity’s Arts Initiative and brings together older people with an interest in arts and culture who want to attend events together.
The initiative aims to create more opportunities for older people to engage with Mayo’s vibrant arts and cultural scene, while also encouraging social connection and companionship.
Membership of the network is free. Members receive a regular calendar of arts and cultural events and independently book and pay for the events they wish to attend. Members then meet at an agreed time before events and attend together, with a social element usually included.
Free parking will be available at The Ellison Hotel for attendees.
Booking is required for the September 30 event. To book or find out more, contact Mayo County Council Arts Service on 094 9064387 or email [email protected].
